A look back at the 2009 USSSA World Series

The 14u X-treme team coming off a Sweet 16 finish at last year's PONY Nationals came into Salisbury, MD to improve on last year's finish.  What they left with was a top 5 finish at the 13u USSSA World Series played in Salisbury, MD.

At the end of pool play, the team was 1-2 and seeded 15th.  We lost a heartbreaker to the OC Outrage from Kentucky in the first game as they came back in the bottom of the 7th to win 3-2.  We then beat the Patriots from Maryland soundly.  Then lost to the Duchess Debs from NY.  Having the 3 pool games in one day was tough.

We then came out with the fire we’ve been looking for all season…

 * 1st bracket game was against the same Patriots team…we won 15-5.

 * Then moved onto playing the 2nd seed, the Long Island Chargers, the team that knocked us out of the sweet 16 at Pony’s last year.  We had several rain delays throughout the day so it was about 9:15pm before we took the field (got to play under the lights).  The girls were fired up…we beat them 4-3.

*  Friday morning came and we played the Chix from Oklahoma.  We went down 3-0 but battled back to tie it and send it to I.T.B.  They scored 2 in the top of the 7th inning but we came back with 3 of our own and won the game.  At this point, all parents needed CPR…drama, drama but absolutely great ball.

* We then ran into the Stunners from Kentucky.  A very solid team.  We suffered our first loss.  The Stunners did end up placing 1st.

* Came to the field Saturday to play the OC Outrage.  We got our revenge and won the game 5-4.

*  We then lost to the Duchess Debs.

Overall, a great, great week of softball.  The girls played fantastic and the team and two of the girls were awarded special recognition awards.

Jordan Prutzer and Natalie Dowzicky were named to the All World Team for the tournament.

We were awarded the Manager’s Award for all the excitement we brought as the girl’s battled and battled.  Many of the directors were following our games and cheering us on.  The award was also representative of the sportsmanship brought to the field.
